Key Points for Choosing Pig Premixes

By Jinxiu Animalcare December 10th, 2024 24 views

There are many brands of pig premixes on the market today. Choosing economically and high-quality feed has become an important task for farmers. Here are some key factors to consider when selecting premixes:

1.Choose Feed Based on the Growth Stage of the Pig

From birth to slaughter, pigs need different types of feed: starter feed, grower feed, and finisher feed. For sows, different feed is chosen based on their pregnancy or lactation stages. It's also important to consult with a veterinarian or animal nutritionist for specific recommendations.

2.Evaluate Feed Quality

Market Feedback: Look at the market reputation, stability, and history of the premix. Generally, longer-established and stable products are better.

Manufacturer Reputation and After-Sales Service: Strong, reliable manufacturers often produce more stable feed and provide better support.

Price and Packaging: Quality feed should be reasonably priced, with clear labeling, including production dates, batch numbers, and proper contact information. High-quality feed often has better packaging.

3.Common Misconceptions About Using Premixes

Assessing Feed by Pig's Stool: The color and consistency of pig manure cannot be solely used to judge feed quality. For instance, high copper content can cause darker stools.

Judging Feed by Pig's Appearance: Skin and coat quality does not always correlate with feed quality.

Attributing Diseases to Feed: Diseases are rarely caused directly by feed. Other factors such as environment, breed, and management can also play a role.

Evaluating Feed by Aroma: Strong aroma does not necessarily mean better feed quality. Adding excessive flavoring agents increases cost without nutritional value.

Feeding Inappropriate Premixes for Growth Stage: Using the wrong premix for a pig’s age or adding inappropriate supplements can hinder growth potential and increase feed costs.

Overusing Growth Promoters: Pursuing excessive growth or market price can lead to unethical practices, such as using banned stimulants. Quality, safe, and environmentally friendly feed should be the focus.

By considering these factors, you can ensure that your pigs are fed high-quality, cost-effective feed that supports their growth and health.
